Looking for some free and fun activities to do in NYC in August?
There are plenty to do!
One of my favorite things to do is visiting Governors Island. We just spent a day there with the kids riding our bicycles. The ferry ride cost $2 per person round trip, but if you are an early bird the rides are free for the first few ferries from Brooklyn, and Manhattan on the weekend.
NYC Summer Streets is another event that turns Lafayette Avenue from the Brooklyn Bridge to 14th Street and continues north on Park Avenue to 72nd Street into a pedestrian plaza for three Saturdays in August.
"Summer Streets is an annual celebration of New York City’s most valuable public space—our streets. On three consecutive Saturdays in August, nearly seven miles of NYC's streets are opened for people to play, run, walk and bike."
You can read more about it here.
Imagine how much faster you can go through your stash if you had a pair of Self Knitting Needles like the ones I saw in Diagon Alley!
We can all dream about it can't we. Ahhh, imagine the cardigans that it can whip up for me; blankets, socks, and mittens too, the list can go on and on, and on.
We just received our shipment of Malabrigo yarn today.
We now have Rasta, and Rios.
I recently came across this article in The New York TImes about The Brooklyn Women's Exchange. I am pleasantly surprised to learn that there is a place in Brooklyn Heights, that supports the efforts of artisans by selling their handicraft.
I visited the store on a recent Saturday with my daughter. We looked through everything that the store has to offer. From knitted sweaters and scarves to baby booties. My daughter hurried me away from the baby items as she wanted to look at the jewelry display. There were some very unique items. One that caught our eyes was a bracelet made from two silver forks. You could also find wooden toys, ceramics, aprons, T-shirts, totes, and many other items. If you live nearby, you should visit the store. We could not leave the store without buying a pretty little charm for my daughter.
The Brooklyn Women's Exchange is a non profit organization that has been here since 1854. You can read more about it here.
I am so excited to be heading to Indianapolis, Indiana this next weekend for TNNA.
For those of you who may not know, TNNA is The National Needle Arts trade show for everything needle arts. From knitting to crochet and weaving as well as counted cross stitch.
It will be our first time attending the TNNA trade show. I can't wait to see the new products that will be on exhibit.
I will let you know how it goes after I return.
